Dr. Costa‘s clinical and research activity is focused on the treatment of primary and secondary liver tumors. After completing his medical studies and surgical training, he has been admitted into the Molecular and Experimental Medicine PhD Programme and he is currently working with the Hepatobiliary and General Surgery Unit and the Laboratory of Hepatobiliary Immunopathology.

In his clinical activity he is involved on daily basis with the surgical management of patients affected by liver tumors, and he participates at the weekly meetings of the Liver Cancer Group of the Humanitas Cancer Center. His research activity covers both clinical and translational projects focused on surgical and oncological outcomes, the molecular mechanisms involved in tumor development and progression and the role of the immune microenvironment in patients affected by hepatocellular carcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma, colorectal liver metastases and neuroendocrine tumors.

Dr. Costa authored and co-authored multiple publication in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, abstracts and presentations at national and international meetings. His current H-index is 11 (Scopus). He is a member of the Italian Association of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery (AICEP).
