Dr. Stravalaci has more than 15 years’ experience in the study of protein-protein interactions in neurological disorders and innate immunity. After receiving the degree in Biotechnology in 2009, he obtained a fellowship at the “Mario Negri” Institute for Pharmacological Research, where his work was mainly focused on the investigation of the aggregation properties of toxic amyloid proteins involved in Alzheimer’s Disease, and the molecular mechanisms involving proteins of the complement system in cerebral ischemia and traumatic brain injury.
After the completion of his PhD in 2016, he moved to the Laboratory of Immunopharmacology at Humanitas Research Hospital, to elucidate the molecular crosstalk between PTX3 and proteins of the innate immunity in the context of age-related macular degeneration. He is currently a Senior Post-Doc, investigating the role of humoral innate immunity in resistance to, and pathogenesis of, emerging viral infections, including COVID-19.
