Enrico Sebastiani obtained his PhD in Computational Biology from the University of Trento at the Department of Cellular, Computational and Integrative Biology (CIBIO) in 2024. During his PhD he worked in cancer research focusing on neuroblastoma and glioblastoma. His research investigated tumour differentiation programmes and differentiation-based therapeutic strategies using high-throughput omics approaches, including single-cell RNA-seq and spatial transcriptomics. He also completed a visiting research period at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg in the Translational Neuroblastoma Research Unit led by Dr. Frank Westermann.
In 2025, before joining Humanitas, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Stefania Corti at Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan. There, he focused on rare neuromuscular diseases, particularly ALS and SMA, applying genomic and multi-omics approaches to investigate how genetic variants and molecular alterations contribute to disease mechanisms.
In June 2026, he joined Humanitas Research Hospital as a bioinformatician in the group of Dr. Daniele Catalucci. His current work focuses on the analysis and integration of multi-omics datasets to study skeletal muscle–heart crosstalk in the context of cancer-induced cachexia. In particular, he contributes to the identification of molecular mechanisms, disease-associated signatures and potential biomarkers involved in cardiac remodelling.
