Federica Rubbino, is a Staff Scientist at the Laboratory of Macrophage Dynamics at IRCCS Humanitas Research Hospital in Milan. Her research focuses on tumor immunology, with particular emphasis on macrophage biology, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and pancreatic and colorectal cancer progression.
Dr. Rubbino obtained her PhD in Molecular and Experimental Medicine from Humanitas University and holds a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics (cum laude) from the University of Pavia, where she also completed advanced training in Biostatistics and Epidemiology. Her multidisciplinary background integrates experimental oncology, molecular biology, and computational analysis.
During her career, she has gained extensive international research experience through visiting positions at leading institutions, including Erasmus MC (Rotterdam), Leiden University Medical Center, and VIB-KU Leuven. Her technical expertise spans in vivo cancer models, organoid systems, advanced molecular and imaging techniques, and transcriptomic data analysis, combined with independent biostatistical skills.
Dr. Rubbino is the recipient of several competitive fellowships, including an AIRC postdoctoral fellowship as Principal Investigator for a project investigating immune modulation in pancreatic cancer. She has contributed to multiple funded research programs in cancer biology and precision oncology.
She is actively involved in teaching as Adjunct Professor at Humanitas University and contributes to the scientific community as an Associate Editor and editorial board member of international journals. She has authored publications in the fields of cancer biology and gastrointestinal diseases, and has received multiple awards for her presentations at international conferences.
Her current research aims to unravel the interplay between immune cells and tumor progression, with the goal of identifying novel therapeutic strategies for aggressive cancers.
