Simran received her integrated Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Biological Sciences from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Mohali, India. During her Master’s thesis at the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore, she investigated DNA double-strand break repair mechanisms in Caulobacter crescentus using live-cell epifluorescence microscopy, molecular genetics, and image analysis.
Her PhD research focuses on the physiological and ecological roles of bacterial enzymes involved in bile acid modification within the human gut microbiome. By combining molecular biology, bacterial genetics, metabolomics, and microfluidic approaches, she aims to study how microbial bile acid transformations influence bacterial interactions and gut ecosystem dynamics. Her work will advance our understanding of host–microbe interactions and contribute to the development of strategies to maintain bile acid homeostasis and gut health.
