Tommaso Sconocchia is a Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow and FWF Schrödinger Fellow in the laboratory of Prof. Salvatore Piscuoglio at Humanitas Research Hospital.
He obtained his Master’s degree in Pharmacy from Sapienza University of Rome in 2016 and then moved to Austria, where he completed his PhD in the Molecular Fundamentals of Inflammation program at the Medical University of Graz in 2021. During his PhD in the laboratory of Prof. Herbert Strobl, he studied the biology of human CD34+ cell-derived Langerhans cells and dendritic cells, with a particular focus on their role in skin inflammation.
After completing his PhD, Tommaso continued his postdoctoral training at the Medical University of Graz in the group of Prof. Andreas Reinisch. There, he developed human hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell-based models of BRAFV600E-mutant histiocytic disorders using CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, contributing to the study of the pathobiology of Langerhans cell histiocytosis and related myeloid neoplasms.
In 2024, he moved to Milan and joined the San Raffaele Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy in the laboratory of Prof. Raffaella Di Micco, where he investigated CAR T cell-based strategies to selectively eliminate senescent hematopoietic cells in hematological neoplasms, including Langerhans cell histiocytosis and Erdheim-Chester disease.
Since 2026, Tommaso has been working at Humanitas as an FWF Schrödinger Fellow. His current research focuses on oncogene-driven myeloid neoplasms and histiocytosis, with a particular interest in immune modulation, cellular senescence, genome editing, and adoptive cell therapy-based immunotherapy.
