Dr. Xhuljana Mingaj earned her Master’s degree in Pharmacy from the University of Milan in 2020 and completed her PhD in Neurobiology at Université Paris Cité (Institut Imagine, Paris) in 2024. Her doctoral research focused on the genetic forms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), investigating metabolic alterations using cellular, zebrafish, and patient-derived iPSC models to uncover disease mechanisms and develop innovative therapeutic strategies, including CRISPR-based genome editing and base editing technologies.
Following her PhD, Dr. Mingaj joined the Institut Necker Enfants Malades (Université Paris Cité) as a postdoctoral researcher. There, she investigated inherited metabolic disorders using patient-derived myoblasts, and iPSC-based models to study mitochondrial dysfunction and evaluate novel therapeutic approaches.
She is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Experimental Neuropathology Laboratory at Humanitas University under the supervision of Dr. Martina Absinta. Her research investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying chronic neuroinflammation and cellular senescence in Multiple Sclerosis by combining human iPSC-derived microglia and glia-enriched brain organoids with CRISPR-based functional genomics and multi-omics approaches to identify the molecular drivers of microglial dysfunction and novel therapeutic targets.
