Dr. Antonella Cammarota is a Medical Oncologist and Cancer Researcher in the Lleo lab at Humanitas Research Hospital, focusing on hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal cancers. She investigates immune response biomarkers in biliary tract cancers, supported by an AIRC postdoctoral fellowship.

Dr. Cammarota earned her medical degree with honors from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Rome in 2017, and completed her specialist training in Medical Oncology at Humanitas Research Hospital in 2023, defending a thesis on targetable biomarkers in upper gastrointestinal tumors.

Since 2022, Dr. Cammarota has contributed to the development of novel therapeutics for GI tumors as a sub-investigator for multiple phase 1-3 trials at the Sarah Cannon Research Institute in London. Here, she has led an educational program on early-phase trials and designed a biomarker-informed study selected for MCCR 2023. Concurrently, she conducted translational research at the University of Cambridge, developing skills in immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, computational image analysis, and bioinformatics under Prof. Rebecca Fitzgerald and Dr. Elizabeth Smyth. In 2024, she was appointed co-chair of the EORTC Young Investigator GI Task Force to promote and advance collaborative research projects for GI tumors across Europe.

Dr. Cammarota has authored over 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals, and various book chapters and conference posters. Her research works have met national and international audiences with presentations at conferences such as AUGIS (Oxford), ESMO WGI, ESMO, and ESMO Asia, and have been recognized for distinction through ESMO Merit Travels and other educational grants. Dr. Antonella Cammarota was awarded competitive funding through the EORTC Young Early-Career Investigator grant in 2023 and AIRC in 2024 to further her translational work line on immune biomarkers in hepatobiliary tumors through a high-resolution study of the tumor immune microenvironment.
