Federica received her master degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at University of Milan in October 2020 and obtained the professional qualification of pharmacist in the same year. During her thesis internship in the laboratory of Dr Sara Francesca Colombo at the Institute of Neuroscience (CNR), she investigated the use of fluorescent ligands to monitor the trafficking of nicotinic receptors. This experience increased her interest in neuroscience, leading her to join Humanitas Research Hospital in April 2021 as a research fellow in the laboratory of Cell Biology of the Synapse led by Dr Matteo Fossati. There, she studied the role of the early secretory pathway in synapse development and function.

In November 2022 Federica has been enrolled in the PhD program in Molecular and Experimental Medicine at Humanitas University, where she worked on the pathogenic mechanisms underlying Angelman Syndrome, a neurodevelopmental disorder of genetic origin. After earning her PhD in February 2026, she continued her research as postdoctoral fellow, focusing on the same pathology, with particular emphasis on the interplay between the post-translational modifications ubiquitination and sumoylation.
